Former NBA star and Nigerian basketball icon, Olumide Oyedeji, has heaped praises on Lagos Legends for their thrilling 74-72 win over Rivers Hoopers, securing their first-ever NBBF Premier League title and a coveted spot in the 2026 Basketball Africa League (BAL).
Oyedeji, a respected NBBF board member and proprietor of Hoops N’ Read, described the victory as a milestone for the domestic league, demonstrating that Nigerian clubs can compete with the best on the continent with proper planning and discipline.
“Your victory is a result of hard work, and other teams should emulate the way Lagos Legends approached the game,” Oyedeji said, urging the champions to begin preparing for the BAL challenge.
Despite his own team, Hoops N’ Read, bowing out in the Final Eight, Oyedeji remained committed to the league’s growth, praising Rivers Hoopers for their excellent hosting of the Final Four.
Oyedeji also commended Rivers Hoopers for their spirited performance, saying, “You gave your best, but it wasn’t enough. Better luck next time.”
Oyedeji’s influence on Nigerian basketball is undeniable, and his dedication to the sport continues to drive its progress. The Legends’ triumph is a testament to the league’s growing competitiveness and professionalism.
