    Enugu Commissioner For Sports Commiserate With Nigerian Sports Media Over The Death Of Promise Uwaeme

    Enugu state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Barrister Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu, has expressed sadness over the death of one of Nigeria’s versatile sports journalists, Promise Uwaeme, aka Pikin.

    In his WhatsApp message to the news of the death of Uwaeme on Sunday, the Commissioner wrote:

    “I want to express my condolences to the sports media community in Nigeria over the death of one of its brightest journalist. May his soul rest in peace”.

    Uwaeme is reported to have passed on today, Sunday, October 26, 2025, in Abuja, after undergoing a major medical operation.

    Until his death, Uwaeme who was involved in football and teqball played a major role as a referee assessor in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

    He was the Head of Competitions, Communications & ICT at the Nigeria Teqball Federation.

    He recently completed a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) training in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, in April this year, bringing Nigeria closer to implementing the technology in its football leagues.

    Uwaeme was a graduate of Business Administration and Management from the Ibadan Polytechnic, Oyo State.
