The National Universities Commission (NUC) has published the names of 58 universities it says are operating illegally in Nigeria, warning students and parents that any certificates from these institutions u are invalid.
In a public notice issued on Friday, the regulator stressed that none of the listed institutions has accreditation to run degree programmes in the country.
“For the avoidance of doubt, anybody who patronises or obtains any c uertificate from any of these illegal institutions does so at his or her own risk,” the commission declared.
It added that security and law enforcement agencies have been alerted to take necessary action against the operators.

The commission urged Nigerians to always verify accordion status of institutions before seeking admission, revealing that only approved universities are recognised for the award of valid degrees in Nigeria.
