    Empowering Women in Sports: NOC Women’s Commission Concludes Seminar Series in Owerri

    The Women’s Commission of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) is set to host the final zonal seminar of its nationwide initiative in Owerri, Imo State, from September 16 to September 18, 2025. This pivotal three-day seminar will bring together female coaches, administrators, and technical officials from State Sports Councils and Commissions within the South-South and South-East geopolitical zones.

    The seminar will take place at the Executive Garden Hotels, located on Okigwe Road in Owerri, the capital city of Imo State. Professor Florence Adeyanju, the esteemed Chairperson of the NOC Women’s Commission, will preside over the proceedings, ensuring a productive and insightful experience for all participants.

    According to Mrs. Kemi Obidahunsi, Secretary of the Commission, this Owerri event marks the successful culmination of a comprehensive seminar series that commenced in July 2025. The initiative has effectively engaged participants from the North Central, North East, North West, and South-West zones, demonstrating the Commission’s commitment to empowering female leaders in sports across the country.

    Professor Adeyanju praised the unwavering commitment of the Women’s Commission members in the South-East and South-South zones for their determination to proceed with the crucial seminar. She emphasized the significance of their resilience in empowering female leaders within the sports ecosystem across these zones.

    The seminar will be formally inaugurated by the distinguished Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel, President of the Nigerian Olympic Committee and Nigeria’s representative on the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Engr. Gumel’s presence underscores the national importance of this initiative, highlighting the NOC’s dedication to promoting women’s empowerment in sports.

    The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) is the national Olympic committee responsible for promoting and developing the Olympic Movement in Nigeria.

    The NOC’s Women’s Commission is dedicated to empowering female athletes, coaches, and administrators, promoting gender equality and advancing women’s participation in sports.

    The Women’s Commission of the NOC aims to promote women’s empowerment in sports, providing a platform for female athletes, coaches, and administrators to develop their skills and expertise. The Commission’s initiatives focus on capacity building, mentorship, and advocacy, contributing to a more inclusive and equitable sports environment in Nigeria.
