Fortress Ladies, a formidable female grassroots football team from Edo State, have officially declared their readiness to compete in the upcoming Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Championship, set to take place in Abia State.

Speaking during a training session in Benin City, the team’s proprietor, Mr. Aimuagbonrie Jimmy expressed confidence in the squad’s ability to succeed in the competition.

“We are prepared to conquer during the tournament. With the calibre of players we have in camp, we are very confident of victory,” he said.

Mr. Aimuagbonrie Jimmy acknowledged the challenges faced by the team on their journey so far but remained optimistic about their chances.

“The journey hasn’t been easy, but we thank God Almighty for His fruitfulness and provision. We have great respect for our rivals, but our focus is on building a team that will emerge as winners and gain promotion to the NWFL Premiership”, he said.

He also extended appreciation to the Edo State Government for their continued support, particularly recognizing the efforts of the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele.

“I appreciate the unflinching support from the Edo State Government through Hon. Enabulele. The players and officials are delighted by his unwavering commitment to promoting female football in Nigeria”, he stated.

Fortress Ladies will compete in Group A2 of the championship, alongside Sunshine Queens, Unification FC, and Kwara FC. Matches in the group will be held at the Umuahia Township Stadium, Abia State.

The winner of Group A2 will secure automatic promotion to the 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership season.

The championship is scheduled to run from September 11th to 21st, 2025.
