The Commissioner for Sports in Ogun State, Honourable Wasiu Isiaka, has revealed that the state’s primary objective at the 9th National Youth Games in Asaba was not to win medals, but to identify and nurture young talents for the state and national teams. In an exclusive interview, Honourable Isiaka expressed satisfaction with Team Ogun’s performance, highlighting that four promising athletes had been selected for a special training camp by the National Sports Commission.

The Commissioner emphasized that sports development has been a top priority for the state government, with a focus on transforming the sporting landscape. He announced plans to partner with primary and secondary schools to discover and nurture talented athletes, with the aim of competing with very young and talented athletes at the next National Youth Games.

Honourable Isiaka praised Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun for providing the necessary funds to support sports development in the state, saying, “I would like to thank His Excellency, Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his support towards sports. All the plans in place, our numerous achievements, could not have been possible without his total support.”

Team Ogun concluded the games in 12th position on the medal table, with 4 gold, 9 silver, and 18 bronze medals. However, according to Honourable Isiaka, the state’s true measure of success lies in the number of young talents identified and nurtured for future competitions.
