Host nation, Namibia yesterday handed Nigeria an 8 Wicket defeat in the African Division 1 qualifiers for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s T20 World Cup.

The Female Yellow-Greens had on Sunday defeated regional rivals, Sierra Leone by 96 runs, and hoped to turn the table against the Namibia ladies yesterday; but having been made to bat first, they endured a torried day at the oval, in Windhoek.

Nigeria was restricted to 70 runs in 18.4 overs, with key contributions from Salome Sunday (22 off 28 balls), Oseyande Omonkhobhio (14 off 11 balls), and Kehinde Amusa (12 off 34 balls).

Namibia’s bowlers maintained control throughout the innings, led by Sally Tahaduleni, Kith Green, and Mary Mwatile.

In response, Namibia chased down the target with ease, finishing at 71for 2 in 9.5 overs. Yasmeen Khan top-scored with a commanding 51 off 30 balls, and was supported by Kelly Green (15 off 20 balls), while Mwatile remained unbeaten on 4.

Nigeria managed two wickets through Kehinde Amusa and Lilian Ude, but Namibia’s batting dominance proved decisive.

Despite the result, the Female Yellow-Greens remain determined to bounce back stronger in their next fixture against another Southern Africa, and African powerhouse Zimbabwe on Wednesday as the team continues its journey in pursuit of World Cup qualification.
