Team Nigeria has concluded its participation in the badminton event of the maiden African School Games in Algeria with two gold, three silver, and one bronze, totalling a haul of six medals.

Nigeria’s first gold came courtesy of Precious Oluwagbotemi Adekunle, who displayed remarkable skill, speed, and tactical awareness to defeat her Egyptian opponent in the girls’ singles final.

Shortly after, Edun David Damilare claimed Nigeria’s second gold in the boys’ singles, putting up a gritty and determined performance that earned him a hard-fought victory.

The girls’ doubles final saw a strong showing from the Adekunle sisters, Precious and Cynthia, who battled bravely but eventually settled for a silver medal, adding to the family’s and Nigeria’s medal tally.

In the mixed doubles final, Edun David paired with Cynthia Adekunle, and the duo delivered an impressive performance that earned Team Nigeria another silver medal.

The mixed team event of Ahmed Ayatulla and Masibau Faisat clashed with Tunisia in a closely contested semifinal. In the boys’ category, Nigeria’s Ayatulla secured a 3-1 victory. In the girls’ match, Tunisia triumphed 3-0 over Nigeria’s Faisat. While in the doubles match, Tunisia edged Nigeria 3-1. The aggregate score of 2-1 in favor of Tunisia meant Nigeria settled for the bronze medal in the mixed team category.

Thus far, Team Nigeria has a total of eight medals from 4 sports. The medals include 2 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze medals.

Team Nigeria will turn its sight to athletics, which starts on Friday, August, 1st.
