Milan Outcast, Rebic, Set To Join Besiktas

Ante Rebic is about to drop the curtain on his second stint in Serie A as he prepares to swap Milan for Besiktas. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano states the 29-year-old will be in Istanbul later today to complete his move to Vodafone Park.

Rebic returned to Italian football in 2019 after three years in the Bundesliga with Eintracht Frankfurt. He initially joined Milan on a season-long loan, but following a dazzling first campaign, the Croatian forward earned a permanent contract the following summer.

However, it’s been a while since he had a relevant factor at San Siro. The past two seasons were disappointing for the Milan misfit, to say the least. While he had some sparkling moments during the title-winning 2021/22 campaign, nothing went his way last term.

An underwhelming tally of three goals from 29 appearances effectively ruled Rebic out of Stefano Pioli’s plans. A wave of summer arrivals hasn’t helped his cause either. Stripped of any realistic chance of returning to his coach’s good grace, Rebic is about to leave Milan.

The upcoming switch to Besiktas is mutually beneficial. While the Turks will pour around €2 million into the Rossoneri bank account, Rebic will have an opportunity to get his stuttering career back on track. Had he stayed at Milan, he would’ve probably lost a place on the national team.

With Euro 2024 coming up next summer, Rebic needs regular first-team football to make Zlatko Dalic’s squad.
