Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade 1 has been crowned the 46th Alaafin of Oyo Kingdom in Oyo State on Saturday.
Oba Owoade succeeds the 45th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, who died on April 22, 2022 at 83.
The coronation event took place at Oliveth Baptist High School in Oyo town. Governor Seyi Makinde was present amongst a host of dignitaries.
Dignitaries present at the coronation included the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin; Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye; Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, and Aare Oona Kankanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, among others.
Oba Owoade had earlier been presented the staff and instrument of office on Monday, January 13, 2025, at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan by Governor Makinde.
The new monarch completed the compulsory 21-day traditional rites known as Oro Ipebi last Saturday, March 29.
Meanwhile, the Yoruba Youth Socio-cultural Association (YYSA) has congratulated Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade 1, on his coronation as the 46th Alaafin in the history of the ancient town.
The association’s national president, Olalekan Hammed, pleaded with the King to do everything possible quickly to conciliate aggrieved members of Oyomesi so that they can work in togetherness to turn things around in Oyo town.
