    By Maxwell Kumoye

In a bid to fast track the growth of the mind game at the youth level, the Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF), has appointed six zonal youth coordinators to achieve this goal.

The coordinators were carefully selected among a host of experienced current players and coaches who have worked with young and upcoming wordsmith with positive results.

Ben Quickpen, captain of Team Nigeria to the last West African Scrabble Championship (WASC), heads the list that includes Okagbue Ajuluchukwu a top player in the Masters category who has nurtured and mentored a good number of young talented kids.

Hassan Olojoku, who has coached multiple National Youth Games gold medallists is another diligent coach appointed by the Nigeria Scrabble Federation.

Joseph Okere, who started scrabble 11 years ago while in Secondary school and currently a scrabble facilitator in 6 schools in Lagos and also doing home scrabble lessons is another excellent addition to the NSF scrabble developmental programme.

“I am very passionate about Scrabble in schools which we call – CATCHINGTHEMYOUNG, and this new responsibility will spur me to do more for the sport,” the Edo State born Joseph Okere said.

Maxwell Chima and Frama Daniel are the other newly appointed youth coordinators for Nigeria Scrabble Federation.

The 6 zonal youth coordinators will be reporting directly to the office of the President of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF), on youth affairs until the end of the current board’s tenure.

The appointment takes effect from the 1st of March 2025.

The newly appointed youth coordinators are expected to work closely with the National Youth Coordinator, Coach, Samuel Eromosele.

One of the tasks ahead of the six zonal youth coordinators is to help groom members of Team Nigeria to the African Youth Scrabble Championship in Nairobi, Kenya in August.

The team is currently in the second phase of the virtual camp under the stewardship of coach Samuel Eromosele.

    The appointed coordinators are:

    1. Ben Quickpen – South South
