Omolabake Esther Yusuff’s family has written to Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA) to request assistance due to the abuse and violence she endured at the hands of her army husband, Latieef Olaniyin Yusuff, who regularly mistreated the mother of two.
Sister to the victim, Adenike Majekodunmi of 3 Oke Owo Street, Abule Okuta, Bariga, Lagos, who signed a petition sent to the WRAPA, said her junior sister, Omolabake Esther Yusuff, has been subjected to battery by her soldier husband, who always gets drunk and attacks his wife at any slightest provocation.

“Before my sister left Nigeria, we witnessed how her husband would beat her up, as the assaults, pain, and suffering meted out on the victims may leave them close to death if not psychologically traumatized.”

“My sister initially left Nigeria for South Africa with the children, but her husband joined them there and continued with his violent conduct against his wife.”

“However, the husband (Latieef Olaniyin Yusuff) on returning to Nigeria has been making trouble with us, threatening the family, demanding for the children’s custody, even after he has been served a letter by the human rights group,” said Mrs. Majekodunmi.

She added that “the culture of gender-based violence will leave women without any legal protection, but when we heard that the Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA) has been working to protect the rights of women in Nigeria, especially in the implementation of legislation that protects women and girls against domestic violence, we decided to seek their support because Mr. Yusuf is hell-bent to foment trouble with the family.”
