    Gotham FC Goalkeeper Abby Smith Traded To Houston Dash For $20 000

    Abigail Mackenzie Smith was born October 4, 1993. An American professional soccer player and a goalkeeper for NJ/NY Gotham FC in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), but now traded to the Houston Dash in exchange for $20,000 in intra-league transfer money.

    “I would like to extend my gratitude to my teammates and the fans at Gotham FC,” said Smith. “Raising a trophy with y’all goes down as one of the highlights, and I feel so blessed to be able to bring that experience into this new chapter of my career!”

    Smith appeared in 15 league games during the 2023 regular season. She worked tough and hard to help Gotham FC qualify for the playoffs and finally won their first-ever NWSL Championship with 45 saves, four clean sheets, and a 1.00 goals against average. She also won the title of Save of the Week in Weeks 4, 5, 10, 14, and 15. Nonetheless, Smith received a nomination for the Nationwide Community Impact Award for 2023.

    In 2023, Smith made 15 league appearances in the regular season. She recorded 45 saves and four clean sheets, with a 1.00 goals against average, helping Gotham FC reach the playoffs and eventually win their first-ever NWSL Championship. More so, she won save of the Week honors for Weeks 4, 5, 10, 14, and 15. and she was also nominated for the 2023 Nationwide Community Impact Award.

    “Abby has been an incredible presence for Gotham FC and was one of our first free agent signings,” said Gotham FC General Manager and Head of Soccer Operations Yael Averbuch West. We are grateful for everything she has brought to the club and wish her the best of luck in her next chapter.”
