    NSC DG Olopade Holds High-Profile Strategic Meeting With eSports Stakeholders in Nigeria

    *Calls for a united federation to build sustainable eSports economy

    As part of the National Sports Commission’s (NSC) ongoing commitment to revamp eSports in Nigeria, the Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, has convened a strategic meeting with key stakeholders in the eSports ecosystem.Speaking during the virtual meeting, Hon. Olopade emphasized the resolve of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR to position Nigeria as a major player in the multi-billion-dollar eSports industry.

    “This meeting is the next step of the Commission’s determination to place eSports where it rightly belongs and gives it the right regulation and framework for sustainable operation,” he said.

    “I am sure you are all stakeholders in the eSports family, and you must have noticed the new mandate given to us by Mr. President to build a strong sports economy. The Commission sees eSports as a major driver to achieve this.”

    Hon. Olopade reiterated the NSC’s commitment to fostering unity within the sector, adding, “This is why the NSC, under the Chairmanship of Mallam Shehu Dikko, is keen to see that all stakeholders in the eSports family are brought under one united Federation.”

    “The National Sports Commission has lofty plans for the growth of eSports, and it is the reason why all factions must come together for the sport to reach its full potential.”

    Looking ahead, he revealed the Commission’s ambition to integrate eSports into the National Sports Festival and ensure Nigeria’s participation in global international eSports tournaments.

    The virtual meeting was attended by prominent stakeholders in the Nigerian eSports community, including Yaya Maikori, Sidney Esiri (Dr. Sid), Ikechukwu Okoye, Sayo Owolabi, Ifeanyi Elumeziem (spokesman), and Damilola Pedro, Co-founder and Head of Partnership at Gamr Africa.
