PSG To Sign New Goalkeeper To Rival Donnarumma

In his first season as Paris Saint-Germain’s full-time number one choice between the sticks, Gianluigi Donnarumma will have initially impressed before letting the odd error seep through in the second half of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Keylor Navas has returned from his loan spell at Nottingham Forest and is intent on challenging for his place with the Ligue 1 champions. Third-choice goalkeeper Sergio Rico is recovering from serious head injuries he suffered in a horse-riding accident, for which he has been in hospital since the end of may.

According to L’Équipe, there are concerns about Donnarumma’s ability to adapt to new manager Luis Enrique’s style of play, which demand a technically able goalkeeper with the ball at his feet.

PSG are now set on signing a new goalkeeper – the question is whether the new signing will be a number two, or brought in to truly challenge Donnarumma.

In any case, Navas’ future will first need to be ironed out, with the former Real Madrid man now definitively on the market. The club have made an initial approach for Hugo Lloris, with the 36-year-old former France captain set to leave Tottenham Hotspur – although in the former Nice man’s case, there are also questions about whether he is suited to Luis Enrique’s plans. In any case, L’Équipe add, the market for goalkeepers will go up a gear once André Onana’s move from Inter to Manchester United is complete.
