England Malan Set To Retire From International Cricket

England batter Dawid Malan 36, has finally retired from international cricket.
In all three formats for England Malan has scored a century along side Jos Buttler. He played in 22 Tests, 30 one-day internationals and 62 T20s.
In 2020 he became the world number one-ranked T20 batter and was the fastest player to reach 1,000 international runs in the format, taking just 24 innings.
The left-hander was part of the England squad that won the 2022 T20 World Cup, but has not played an international since the 50-over World Cup in November
“It has been an incredible journey since July 2017,” Malan said. “I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to play for England in all three formats.
“Cricket, like most sports, is an industry where almost everyone eventually retires wishing they had done that little bit more. Whether you’ve played ten Tests or 100, many step away regretting not playing just one more, scoring a few more runs, or winning more trophies.
“Right now, as I retire from international cricket, I can say I am genuinely satisfied.”
However, speaking to The Times, external, Malan said that despite “exceeding all expectations” in white-ball cricket, he felt he could have played more Test matches.
“Test cricket was always the pinnacle for me growing up,” he said.
“At times I played well but in between just wasn’t good enough or consistent enough, which was disappointing because I felt I was a better player than that.”
Malan scored 1,074 runs, at an average of 27.53, in Tests and has 1,450 runs at 55.76 in one-day internationals.
He is England’s fourth-highest run-scorer in men’s T20s with 1,892, at an average of 36.38.
Malan was born in London but grew up in South Africa, returning to the UK with Middlesex in 2006 before joining Yorkshire in 2020
The batter, who has occasionally bowled off-spin, signed a white-ball only contract and took on a part-time coaching role with the county at the start of 2024.
He is also a regular in franchise cricket leagues across the world, including the Indian Premier League, Australian Big Bash and The Hundred.
