The private residence of Mariya Mahmoud, minister of state for the federal capital territory (FCT) has been gutted by fire.
The fire outbreak occurred on Sunday afternoon at the residence located at No. 9, Justice Roseline Ukeji Close, Asokoro area of Abuja.
Firefighters were reported to have responded sluggishly to distress calls when the fire broke out.
Austine Elemue, media aide to the minister, who confirmed the incident to Sportsday, said the cause of the fire outbreak could not be ascertained immediately.
Elemue said first responders could not salvage anything in the house.
“Yes, fire gutted the private residence of the minister of state. Investigation is still on to know the cause of the fire,” Elemue said.
“But electric spark is suspected though, but we are going to wait for the outcome of the investigation. There is no casualty but we could not salvage anything from the house.”
