The board of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has announced another postponement of the league owing to lack of funds and other issues.

Recall that this the second time the league will be suffering postponement after nine weeks of matches in the 2023/2024 season.

In a statement released by Modupe Shabi, the Chief Operating Officer of NWFL, it was disclosed that the league matches initially slated for Wednesday, February 28, 2024, have been rescheduled to take place on March 20, 2024.

According to the statement, the decision to postpone these matches was not taken lightly but was deemed necessary to address several pressing issues that have arisen within the league. These include concerns surrounding match operations, funding, and officiating.

The statement reads; “I am directed to inform you that the league matches originally scheduled for Wednesday, 28th February, 2024 have been postponed until the 20th of March, 2024. This decision has been made in order to allow us to resolve several important issues that have recently arisen, including match operations, funding and officiating.

“As such, the NWFL board has prioritized the resolution of these matters to ensure the long-term success and sustainability of the league.” the statement disclosed.

Assurances were given that the league management is committed to working tirelessly to overcome the current challenges and deliver an outstanding sporting spectacle on the rescheduled date.
